Lunch box Snacks – Guilt-free Nibbles For Your Lunchbox

June 29, 2010 by caroline Leave a Comment

Wanting to find healthy nibbles or lunch box snacks that won’t make you feel guilty? Read on to find out what Fiona Hunter has to say…

351Expert Nutritionist and Dietician, Fiona Hunter reveals which snacks are healthier. One of the biggest myths about snacking is that snacking is bad for you. The truth is, it’s not the act of snacking itself that is bad for you, but the type of snacks that people often choose to snack on.

Many of our favourite snack foods are high in fat, sugar and/or salt and lacking in fibre, vitamins and minerals. But if you choose your snacks wisely, most nutritionists agree that eating little and often – three main meals with a couple of small healthy snacks in between – is a much healthier way of eating. Eating regularly can help keep blood sugar levels stable, avoid the energy lows that many of us experience mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Studies have also shown that eating regularly will help reduce the risk of over-eating at meal times and can help with weight control.

So, we put the Lunchbox World team to the test to find out what else is out there besides the obvious Nairns Oatcakes and Oat bakes when it comes to tasty snacks. We know you are familiar with licorice and the health and stress-relieving properties that Panda Licorice has.

The team has since come up with the following alternatives: Weightwatchers have launched their mini cookies range, with each 22g cookie bag counting for 1.5 points; New Nature Snack pouches come in four fabulous flavours – two for your naughty side and two to appeal to your exotic spirit, satisfying all of your cravings and at just 130 calories a pack! Plus Soreen (makers of the malt loaf) have launched their fruity cereal GoBars.

Remember to try and keep a treat a treat and always read the label to be sure of what really is inside. Plus don’t forget the abundant supply of fruit out there as a healthy snack too! Remember bananas and oranges come in their own packaging! How amazing is that?!

Let us know if there are any lunch box snacks you find perfect for your needs. We love hearing from you!
