National Baking Week this week (18-24 October 2010) so let’s get baking!

To help get the nation baking we have some more portable recipes to share! Check out our lunch box recipe section!

387Now in its third year, the nation clearly doesn’t need too much encouragement to roll up their sleeves and get involved in National Baking Week.  But this year the campaign is looking to make a difference as we ask the nation to down tools and take a Cake Break!

It’s widely reported that us Brits work some of the longest hours in Europe, plus we are working longer hours than we did a decade ago, with 1 in 3 men and 1 in 10 women working more than 50 hours a week – and mostly without taking regular breaks.

In a recent article in The Guardian, Duncan Bannatyne cited how important it was from a business perspective to keep a workforce healthy and happy at work; “Employers with an unhappy workforce will see their profits fall, as they suffer from rapid staff turnover and regular sick leave as well as reduced productivity.” So it’s time to do something about it!

For National Baking Week we’re asking the nation, from Administrators to Zoo Keepers, Avon Ladies to Zen Masters to take a break everyday at 3.00pm accompanied with some baking, a Cake Break if you will.

Designed to slow everyone down, and to relieve stress, as it’s proven that people enjoy the act of baking* and achieve a sense of satisfaction to share their baking with others, compared to buying and sharing baked goods.

For inspiration on what to bake, take a look at our recipe section for both sweet and savoury recipes that are portable, so ideal for your lunch box! Recipe image showing is for Goat’s Cheese Tarts!
