Save calories but still have Pancakes?
Bored of the traditional lemon and sugar on your pancake? Want something that looks great, tastes amazing, but will not pile on the pounds? Then why not try the delicious low-calorie pancake recipes created by Canderel, the UK’s leading sweetener brand, to help inspire you on Pancake Day!
A teaspoon of Canderel granules contains only 2 calories, compared to 20 calories in a teaspoon of sugar, so you can reduce the calorie content of your favourite dishes without compromising the delicious taste you love.
Savoury Pancakes in our Recipe Section
Alternatively, if you fancy something different this year, we’ve just added our top two favourite savoury pancakes to the Recipe section, one uses sausages, the other tuna. You could even pop them in your lunch box. If you’re determined to go for the more traditional toppings, these will transport well in a lunch box, just take some wipes and serviettes! It could get sticky! We suggest lemon and sugar, maple syrup or nutella with banana (For best results, chop the banana just before serving).
Save Time for Flipping the Pancakes!
If you really are strapped for time, there’s two choices: Mrs Crimbles (gluten free and wheat free) where you add milk and eggs or there’s Betty Crocker’s “Shake to Make” pancakes, where you just add water, and shake! Now you’ve freed up some time to perfect the tossing. Just make sure you check the Betty Crocker website to see the fun flipping video of “Stunt Mum” Kati!
World Record for Tossing Pancakes
Meanwhile this Pancake Day, Celebrity chef, Aldo Zilli, is challenging Londoners to break his world record for tossing pancakes. Able to flip a pancake 117 times in one minute, the restaurateur is currently the holder of the Guinness title. On the 8th March, he is putting his record on the line to see if there is anyone in the Capital who can toss more than him.
The event will take place at the iconic Zilli Fish on 36 Brewer Street, Soho, from 8am. Challengers will be able to compete with Zilli on their way to work and for those not taking part, there will be able to order pancakes from the restaurant for breakfast whilst they watch.
Zilli has invited along some famous challengers too, including celebrity chefs and regulars at his restaurant.
The Guinness Book of Records have been asked to cover the event to see if a new record will be made. If anyone can beat Zilli, they will not only take his title but they will win a pancake lunch for two. Pancakes will be on the menu throughout Soho.
