Here are just some of the images from summer I have so wanted to put up to just capture some of the visitors to our garden this year.
First off, the delightful dragonfly that stayed for twenty minutes or more, one summer’s day…
We believe it was catching a quick nap, as even as we gently moved our finger in close, it didnot move nor flinch.
Then came the green woodpecker…
… that popped in for a couple of worms…
Then the excitement of our first frog…
A frog that was just passing through the garden… This was the third one to be spotted, we were just too slow with the camera to capture the other two that hopped through!
This chap unfortunately was captured by the brood and put in the bug hunting inspection tank, and scrutinized for an hour. We decided this was a common frog after much looking through nature books. I was not going to look online for fear I would never get the children off the computer, no, we were outside in touch with nature, not inside playing computer games!
Our constant battle with the 21st century prevailed!
And then our creepy crawly mixture…
You may remember at the start of summer we sowed our seeds in the garden. King Julien had one half and Spike had the other half of the patch. They had a pack of seeds each and, to the annoyance of Spike, the older of the two, King Julien’s side absolutely thrived! Unfortunately this year we did not spot the usual grasshoppers. We didnot spot these until we went bramble gathering in the hedgerows!
But that can be another posting!
We are now on the look out for other visitors now that Autumn Watch is back on BBC2. We must also clean our our nesting boxes in the hope that we will have Blue Tits fledging as well as Great Tits, just like we managed this year! Fingers crossed!
