Water – key facts you should know!

November 10, 2010 by caroline Leave a Comment

We are always told “You don’t drink enough water!” We all think we know about water, but do we? Today’s post is all about water – key facts we all should know. Once you have read this post, I hope you will start understanding why water is so important to us.

Water – key facts

Do you know why water is so important?

75% of the body is made up of water

80% of the brain is made up of water

75% of the muscles are made up of water

92% of the blood is made up of water

Water carries the nutrients and oxygen to all cells in the body

Water regulates the body temperature

Dehydration Facts:

1% dehydration results in thirst

There is a 10% decrease in your mental performance when you feel thirsty

2% dehydration reduces your ability to work

4% dehydration results in lethargy, apathy…

If you are dehydrated you are more likely to have trouble in concentrating, be more irritable and have more headaches

What to do when hot:

It is important to drink after exercise, or if you have been sweating

The best drink for your body is water. Sports drinks are good if you exercise for more than 40 minutes. Milk and juice are healthy, but they contain calories. (Water has no calories.)

Fizzy drinks are not the healthiest choice and will actually make you dehydrate faster, so avoid these if you are doing a lot of sport.

Always read the labels and know what you are consuming.

Hopefully this post has helped explain why water is so important to us.  Is there anything you’d add to this post? Any tips or hints?

We love hearing from you so please comment below or join us on our Facebook page!
