Nowadays we have to be environmentally aware, but the key is not to make it into a chore. Try and do the things that are easy for you to do.

Here are some ideas to help you reduce the waste in your packed lunch:

Reduce : try and buy things with less packaging. Try and avoid plastic bags, cling film (items that won’t biodegrade)

Re-use: use refillable bottles for drinks and plastic containers for food

Recycle: if you have to wrap the food up, use foil and greaseproof paper as they can be recycled

Compost: try and think what things will rot down and make compost?

Other handy low waste tips:

1 Buy larger cartons of fruit juice, and decant into bottles

2 Pack your food in reusable plastic containers with lids (old ice cream or margarine tubs) or our range of BPA lunch boxes for sale in our shop

3 Buy treats (cakes, biscuits) in bulk, and put individual portion into plastic containers

4 If time, bake your own cake (has no extra packaging), and transport in a plastic container, again check out our range of plastic boxes in our shop

5 Fresh fruit comes in its own ready-made packaging, which then becomes compost!

Why not send in your waste saving ideas! How to you reduce your waste – whether this is food waste or packaging waste or both?
