The Veggie Patch Grows – In Pictures…

June 14, 2012 by Caroline Job Leave a Comment

With all this rain the veggie patch has literally shot up. Well the potato plants have at any rate…
We first started talking here, but thought the best way to share our excitement is through pictures…

The potato plants, already in flower…

These are the potato plants in our shared veggie patch. You may wonder what’s a shared veggie patch? Well, the veggie patch is too big for one, so it was suggested by a dear friend that a couple of us each take a section of her veggie patch.
The idea is we each tend our section. But we jointly water it, so if over the summer, any of us are away, the plants won’t suffer…
We’ve also set up a little competition between us, to see who out of the three buddies sharing the veggie patch has the greenest fingers! Who will cultivate the best produce.
This will end in a kind of harvest festival dinner at the end of the summer, whereby we aim to eat our produce…

So back to the veggies…
Our beans, the french green bean variety…

and our pumpkin plants are coming along nicely too…

And we got so carried away with our seed-planting, that we had to dig up a section of our own garden… Here we’ve got more pumpkins, red onions, cornichons (the baby gherkins), more potatoes and tomato plants…

Our pumpkin plants with lots of space as we’re hoping to nurture “Big Mama Pumpkins”

Now if you’re looking for recipes to use up those herbs you’re growing, hop over here or visit the recipe section…

So what veggies are you growing this year? Do you pop any herbs in your lunch box?
